With David Bowie’s new documentary Lunar Reverie, Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, Jane) presents a genre-defying immersion in the art and sounds of David Bowie. The film will hit theaters this fall.
Lunar Reverie is the first film to be supported by the David Bowie Estate, which granted Morgen unprecedented access to its collection. Told through sublime, kaleidoscopic imagery, personal archival footage, never-before-seen performances, and anchored by the music and lyrics of David Bowie. Check out the official trailer below.
In 2017, the domain featured Morgen with over 5 million assets. The collection included rare and unpublished drawings, recordings, films and diaries. Morgen spent four years putting the film together and another 18 months designing the soundscape, animations, and color palette.
For the film, the sound team, consisting of longtime Bowie collaborator, friend and music producer Tony Visconti and Academy Award®-winning sound mixer Paul Massey (Bohemian Rhapsody) remixed and translated the original clips. from Bowie for a theatrical environment that will be featured in 12.0, 5.0, Atmos, and 7.1/5.1.
