Pedophile pop star Gary Glitter received the COVID-19 vaccine – before his victims and the prison staff protecting him, according to a report.
The 76-year-old sex offender – whose real name is Paul Gadd – was among a slew of elderly perverts who were beaten last week in the UK prison where he is serving a 16-year sentence for abusing three girls , said The Sun.
British government officials insisted to the newspaper that prisoners “are being vaccinated at the same time as the general public” and are not prioritized.
But David Spencer of the Center for Crime Prevention said it showed the system “needs an urgent overhaul”.
“There are a lot of key workers and vulnerable people who haven’t had their shot yet. It is wrong to single out the criminals in front of them,” he told The Sun.
A source told The Sun that convicted sex offenders were among the first to be shot because many of them are elderly. Due to their young age, the victims are probably among the last to benefit from the same protection.
“You have prisons where there is a large group of older sex offenders, all in their 70s and 80s,” the source said.
“Because of their age, they will receive the vaccine first.
“But if you’re a prison officer dealing with Glitter and you haven’t gotten the shot, you won’t be happy,” the source said.
Glitter was vaccinated at Dorset prison The Verne, dubbed “the luxury Alcatraz” because of its island setting and pleasant conditions, The Sun said.
He has been incarcerated since 2015 for abusing three young girls – his third prison sentence for child molestation.
He was first jailed in 1999 for uploading child abuse footage and then again in 2006 for assaulting two girls aged 11 and 12.
A government spokesman insisted to The Sun that prisoners are being given the vaccine “in accordance with priority groups set out by the Independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization”.
