Pedophile pop star Gary Glitter received the COVID-19 vaccine – before his victims and the prison staff who protect him, according to a report.
British government officials insisted to the newspaper that detainees “are vaccinated at the same time as the general public” and are not given priority.
But David Spencer of the Center for Crime Prevention said he was proving the system “needs an urgent overhaul.”
“There are still a lot of key workers and vulnerable people to receive their jabs. It is wrong to distinguish criminals before them, ”he told The Sun.
A source told The Sun that convicted sex offenders were among the first to be vaccinated because many of them are elderly. Due to their young age, victims are probably among the last to benefit from the same protection.
“You have prisons where there is a large group of older sex offenders, all between the ages of 70 and 80,” the source said.
“Because of their age, they will get the vaccine first.
“But if you’re a prison guard looking after Glitter and you haven’t been given the jab, you won’t be happy,” the source said.
Glitter was vaccinated at Dorset prison The Verne, nicknamed “Alcatraz de luxe” because of its island setting and cozy conditions, The Sun said.
He has been locked up since 2015 for abusing three young girls – his third prison sentence for pedophile crimes.
He was first jailed in 1999 for uploading child abuse footage, and then again in 2006 for sexually assaulting two girls aged 11 and 12.
A government spokesperson insisted to The Sun that prisoners were given the vaccine “in accordance with priority groups defined by the Independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization.”
