Actor Nicolas Cage has said he plans to channel David Bowie’s Thin White Duke character, as well as his late father’s for Dracula at Renfield.
Nicolas Cage says he plans to channel David Bowie and his late father in his portrayal of Dracula in Renfield. Directed by Chris McKay (tomorrow’s war), Renfield is a horror-comedy that centers on Dracula’s henchman, Renfield, played by Nicholas Hoult, who is a devoted and patient follower in an insane asylum. Cage is set to play Dracula in the film, with Awkwafina and Ben Schwartz rounding out the main cast. The movie is written by The Walking Deadby Robert Kirkman rick and mortyit’s Ryan Ridley.
Cage last played a vampiric character in vampire kiss (although he is not a real vampire), but this will be his first adventure as the most famous of them. The actor is known for his deep commitment to his roles, going to great lengths to portray whatever roles he chooses, be it action, comedy, drama or fantasy. Cage won an Oscar for his role in Leaving Las Vegas in 1995 and starred in a number of notable performances throughout his career, portraying a wide variety of characters, projects like Raising Arizona, Wild At Heart, Face/Off, Con Air, Kick-Ass, Joeand more recently in 2021 Porkwhich has often been hailed as his best performance in decades.
In a new cover with QGCage says he’ll make similar efforts to invest in his role as Dracula in Renfield, choosing a few interesting sources for his inspiration, namely David Bowie and his late father, August Coppola. “I try to become the Thin White Duke for Dracula“, the actor said in the interview, as he notes that his diet is very specific to get there. The Thin White Duke was a character Bowie used in the 70s, known for his slicked back hair, his pale skin, his thin build, and an overall frightening, almost otherworldly appearance. As for who he will channel for the role of Dracula, Cage says he will recreate his father.”August Coppola returns“, said the actor, adding:”And he returns as Dracula.“
Cage previously said his Dracula would be inspired by James Wan’s clever and Hideo Nakata Ringu, especially movements and voice. The addition of Thin White Duke of Bowie and his father with those earlier inspirations is sure to be another memorable performance from Cage. Apart Renfieldit will also be seen in the action comedy The pension planas well as his first pair of westerns, The old way and Butcher’s crossing. The actor’s latest film, The unbearable weight of massive talentstarring Pedro Pascal, is set to debut on April 22.
While Cage has struggled for many years with a long streak of sporadic films, the actor appears to be back on the rise, with his latest projects holding more water than some of the finer material of the past decade (despite some jewels like mandy and Pork). Rather than seeing the actor go wild for his role as Dracula, it’s interesting to see him choose such a specific inspiration for the role, which is likely to be something unique, if not amazing. Renfield is just one of many projects the actor can sink into, which will hopefully lead to another Cage revival.
