New groups of Earth spiders named after David Bowie

From Natural History Museum:

Rise from the ashes of the trash taxon, 49 Bowie spiders have been reclassified from Ctenus. Other species, on the other hand, have had sexual forms described for the first time.

Moreover, Peter described 55 fully new specieswhose names draw from the musical catalog of David Bowie.

Species from the northernmost regions where Bowie spiders live, such as Nepal, are named after songs from the musician’s early career, such as B. ziggystardust and B. majortom.

Those in the middle range represent songs from later in his career, such as B. Letsdance and B. magic dancewhile those in the southernmost regions, such as Papua New Guineaare named after more recent songs such as B. black star.

And yes, there is a B. hero and one B. aladdinsan and one B. rebel rebel as well. Because I know you were worried about it. I assume the B. magic dance can only be found in Goblin Mazes, but I can’t find any information to confirm or deny this.

Researcher Peter Jäger had also named other spiders after Bowie, including the hunter’s spider davidbowie heteropod – but this new genus is a whole family of spiders, not just an individual.
