The prison housing pedophile Gary Glitter and nearly 600 other sex offenders has been described as a “summer camp” where prisoners are given “special privileges”.
Photos taken inside HMP The Verne, on the Isle of Portland, show the conditions in Class C prison.
Prisoners can enjoy five-a-side football on an astroturf pitch, play chess on a giant board and relax by an ornamental pond filled with expensive fish, according to reports.
The “Paedo Alcatraz” houses men serving sentences for sexual offenses.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, is serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted of abusing three young girls.

He is one of 580 inmates at the prison, where convicts can roam freely and prepare tea and coffee in their own cells.
They also have access to 20-inch TVs and personal trainers, it is claimed.
A source said The sun : “It’s like a summer camp in there. To think that some of these people raped children, the public would be disgusted to see how they live.

“Because it’s all sex offenders together, they feel safe and there is no problem.”
The source also claimed that older prisoners enjoy “special privileges” because they are considered well behaved.
This week it emerged that glam rocker’s darling Gary Pantoja Sosa, 18, is receiving money from his disgraced father – whom he has never met.

Gary, the result of a relationship with former farmer Yudania Sosa Martinez, was born in February 2001.
Asked about Glitter’s involvement in his life, Gary said, “I’m in communication with my dad but it’s a difficult subject for me and I’m not allowed to talk about it.
“Everything is going well in my life but I am not working or studying at the moment. “
