Gary Glitter booed the stage in tears for karaoke performance in prison

Pedophile Gary Glitter was seen in tears after being booed off stage as he performed his greatest hits during karaoke in prison.

He was dressed in a foil costume for the show as his fellow inmates chanted “off, off, off.”

Glitter, 74, real name Paul Gadd, was planning to sing Another Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas and I Love, You Love, Me Love.

He reportedly rehearsed his songs for three weeks before the event, singing in his cell and during meals.

Glitter lived for years in the village of Wedmore, near Bristol, but his career came to an end when he brought his computer to PC World at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol in 1997, and staff found indecent footage of child sex abuse on her hard drive and called the police.

Since then he has been imprisoned in Thailand and was recently sentenced to 16 years in prison there.

“He seemed to think he was back on Top of The Pops”

The karaoke incident happened this month at The Verne’s “pedigree” prison on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, daily recording reports.

A source from the prison said: “It was supposed to be a little fun, but Gadd took it incredibly seriously. He had managed to get his hands on some of his old music.

“Most of the other people on the show did it for a laugh, but Gadd seemed to think he was back on Top of The Pops.

“It started badly when the music wasn’t playing. Then he had to stop halfway and drink some water.

“After the second song things seemed to improve, but the audience found it a bit too pretentious.

“Rather than sounding like a pop star, he looked like a retiree wrapped in a security blanket, singing out of tune on a 70s record. It was a bit surreal.

“But just when he seemed to find his voice, the audience started yelling ‘off, off, off’.

“Most of the inmates in the prison are sex offenders. They are neither dangerous nor violent, so there was never a risk of trouble.

“Gadd pouted in tears and had to be consoled by some of the other prisoners who must have reassured him that he was as good a singer as he was in his prime.”

The singer was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2015 for attempted rape, illegal sex with a girl under 13 and indecent assault.

He abused three young girls between 1975 and 1980.

He was transferred to Category C prison, which underwent a £ 3.3million makeover, earlier this year.

The prison houses only pedophiles.

They have tea and coffee making facilities in their cells and are allowed to roam freely in their wing all day.

The prison would also have an exercise yard, an ornamental pond with koi carp, and a farm where convicts can grow flowers and tend ducks.
