Bowie almost did the same for The man who fell to earth. He started writing a soundtrack which he planned to follow his 1975 album Young Americans. He only finished a few demos that were out of sync with the picture. Roeg brought in John Phillips from Mamas & the Papas. Bowie freed From station to station. When Bowie made the album Down in 1977 he sent a copy to Roeg with a note that simply read, “That’s what I had in mind for the film.” Demos were not available until the 40th anniversary release The Man Who Fell to Earth: Limited Collector’s Edition.

Is he a creature of a foreign power? Is he a bad guy, is he dangerous, is he smart , stupid, nice to his parents? Real, a fucking? Crazy? Healthy? Male, female, robot? On the music scene, he had been everything: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Major Tom, The Thin White Duke. does not seek to define Bowie, but shows why he should be experienced. Bowie’s art is presented as a guide to how we can live our best lives. What was radical in 1971 is mainstream today. The non- Bowie’s conformity offered a new standard.
